Annie Chambers
Baltimore, MD
The baby was coming and I said to a friend of mine. I said, "I'm not going to make it." And she said, "Oh, come on." And as I'm telling you. We went down in the ditch and put a blanket and I had my baby. The ambulance came and took me and my baby to DC general, checked me out. I called my father. He came and picked up my baby and when it came time for me to speak up there on that mall, I was there. When reverend Keys said we are supposed to have Annie here, 'cause I wasn’t a reverend then. He said, "One of our speakers is not here because she gave birth today." And the person was standing next to him saying, "Uh uh, she is here!" And he looked over and he said "How you get here?" And I said, “The baby's out!”
